Musical Heirlooms was created from deep within the heart of an adult whose life was forever shaped by a seed. The seed was planted more than 40 years ago and culminated into a desire to manifest gratitude. 

In March 2024, I had a burning desire to send my 3d grade teacher a special gift that would really express how valuable, instrumental and timeless our time together had been. 

Throughout the years I have called to wish her a happy birthday; I’ve sent flowers. But this year I wanted to do something different…something special that would last as long as her gift to me. 

I have found myself whispering a small thank you to this educator many times throughout my life, when I was tasked with writing assignments at work, in school and even smaller more personal tasks such as this one. Her instruction is behind every correctly spelled word, every conjugated verb, and all correct grammar and punctuation. The drive to work every assignment to completion and without error compels me and carries over into every aspect of my life. 

Ms. Jackson would never divulge her age to her students. It became a challenge for us to guess. We would chide her about it, wondering why it was such a big secret. Now, as a seasoned adult, I understand. I also now know her secret and guard it with great pride. 

The gift I chose for Ms. Jackson this year was a stuffed animal. But not just a basic one. Her gift was filled with a Ray Boltz song: Thank You for Giving to the Lord…I was a life that was changed…” She loved it! 

I’m so grateful for the inspiration that blossomed into an heirloom that can be passed down to her grandchildren as a reminder of her dedication and passion for literacy and education.
